How can chiropractic help with bulging discs?
Updated: Jul 27, 2022
Are you dealing with a bulging disc? You are not alone! It is quite a common condition today–usually caused by our lifestyle, injuries, or as a part of aging. Regardless of the cause, bulging discs can hinder the body and mind to a severe extent.
If you are looking for a safe and natural treatment for bulging discs, here is a question you might need answered- Can chiropractic care help fix a bulging disc? Yes! In my office, chiropractic has been one of the most effective solutions to this problem.

What is a bulging disc and how is it caused? What are its usual symptoms? And of course–how can I help you with bulging discs?
Here is the idea-
What is a bulging disc?
Basically, your spinal column is made of stacked vertebral bones. And between each vertebra, there is a soft cartilage disc providing a “cushion”. Due to one issue or the other, these discs may lose their shape and protrude beyond their natural position. And that–is a bulging disc. This can happen anywhere along the spine, all the way up from the neck to the lower back.

What may cause it?
There can be several factors behind a bulging disc. Here are the most common ones-

Physical injuries or trauma
An already weak annulus (The sturdy exterior of a disc)
Repetitive forceful motion in the gym or a sport
Poor posture and body mechanics (For instance–an incorrect sitting, sleeping, or lifting posture)
Low core strength or abdominal fat
Maintaining a position for long periods–like sitting, driving, or standing for hours.
Associated symptoms
While the symptoms usually vary depending on the nature of the condition or the age of the patient–some patterns are fairly common.
Back pain or spasms
Neck pain–especially when in motion
Irregularities in bowel/bladder functions
Shoulder pain
Numbness or tingling around the legs
Radiating pain in the upper arm, forearm, or fingers.
Have you been experiencing one or more of these symptoms? If yes, please do not hesitate to get a checkup. Waiting on bulging discs may worsen your problems severely down the road.
Chiropractic for Bulging discs
Bulging discs may not be cause for concern if diagnosed early. For most patients, it is advisable to begin the treatment with a non-invasive, gentle approach–and chiropractic is often the best solution in this regard.
In my office, I begin with a complete evaluation of the patient’s medical history and condition. In the case of a disc injury, I refer the patient for x-rays or other forms of spinal imaging. I then identify the bulging discs and look for other problems that may be adding to the strain of the affected discs. I will follow this diagnosis with the appropriate treatment plan.
Spinal disc decompression therapy, in particular, has been key in the treatment of bulging discs. It works by gently stretching the spine to take pressure off the spinal discs. Over time, this negative pressure helps the bulging discs retract back into place. This can also alleviate pain from the nerve root and reduce any inflammation caused by the bulging disc.
Gentle, low-force adjustments may also help take care of joint dysfunction or restriction. The goal of my treatment plan will be to reduce compression around the spinal cord, minimize or eliminate your pain, and restore your mobility.
